Slicethepie review 2018Slicethepie is an online, paid music review website where you can earn money to listen to, and leave your opinion on upcoming songs in various genres.

In theory, it’s a great website that could be extremely popular, but unfortunately its poor execution makes it another overrated, underpaying micro-job.

If you just want to listen to some new music, and make a small amount of cash on the side while doing so, then you might actually enjoy the program. But if your goal is to make more than petty cash, then you might want to consider other alternatives, such as affiliate marketing.

My Experience With Slicethepie – Why I Didn’t Like the Program

I was intrigued by the idea of making money by listening to, and giving my input on new music. I love music (as I’m sure most of you do as well), and thought it could be a great way to make a few extra bucks in my downtime.

However, after creating my account and completing eleven reviews, I had only made $0.14.

Slicethepie earnings after 11 reviews

I quickly began to realize that there wasn’t much of an opportunity here.

When you create an account and complete your first review, your profile is given a rank out of 5 stars that determines the quality of your reviews. The higher the rank, the more you get paid per review. This provides an incentive to provide higher quality reviews.

Slicethepie rating

Unfortunately, there seems to be very little change in payouts even with a higher review rank. This then eliminates that incentive when you realize that taking more time to write a high quality review is not worth your time. You’re better of writing the bare minimum, and writing as many reviews as possible.

In order to complete a review, you must listen to at least 90 seconds of the given song. You’ll then be required to write a review of at least 50 words, and provide a rating out of 10.

Your review form will look like this:

Slicethepie review requirements

Completing a full review that will be approved takes between 3-5 minutes, and with the payouts for your reviews only reaching a few cents each, you can’t expect to make more than $2.00/hour.

Similar to most other online money making opportunities, Slicethepie falls short when it comes to its user’s earnings.

The Only Way to Earn Money With Slicethepie – Referring Friends and Family

With your reviews paying you only a few cents each, the only realistic way to make any kind of money here is to use the referral program.

After signing up for slicethepie, you’ll be given a unique referral link that can be given to your friends and family. If they use this code/link when signing up, you will earn %10 of all the earnings they make.

But let’s think about this for a minute:

Even if you make $0.05/review, %10 of $0.05 is only $0.005.

You won’t even make a whole cent per referral review. You’d have to refer thousands of people to even make a double digit income.

So even using the referral program really doesn’t prove to be a realistic money making opportunity.

Final Thoughts – My Recommendation

After my personal experience with Slicethepie, I have to conclude that the earning potential here is much less than ideal. There are far better money making opportunities online to take advantage of.

The fact that they have had over 38 million reviews submitted, but haven’t even paid out $4 million, is a clear sign that there isn’t much money to be made here.

However, if you just enjoy listening to music, and want to give your input in exchange for a small (and I emphasize small) amount of money, then you’ll probably enjoy the program.

But if you’re interested in earning a substantial supplementary income, then I recommend reviewing my #1 recommendation for earning money online.

All you need to make money onlineMillions of people have used this method to earn money online, and many of them have become wildly successful. The potential to earn money here is tremendous, it is completely legitimate, and possible for anyone to become successful.

All you need is:

  • Discipline
  • Perseverance
  • Motivation

Earning any kind of serious money online doesn’t come without some hard work. You have to be willing to put in the time to reap the rewards of your efforts.

If you are the type of person that is motivated, and hard-working, then you can make a lot of money right here online!

Great review man! I never actually heard of the program before, however, I do keep my options open when it comes to making money online.

Thanks for your very informative review, I’m sure down the road I may have heard of this program only to have wasted valuable time and work.

Thanks again, I think I’ll steer clear of this one!

    1. Isaya says:

      Hey Mike,

I wish I had read some reviews on the site before joining. Thankfully, I didn’t waste too much time before realizing that it wasn’t worth my time. I’m glad I could save you the trouble!

If you are keen on money making opportunities, I think you’d like affiliate marketing. You can learn more about it right here!
If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask!

    Hi Isaya,
While the idea is great, thanks for sharing your experience and showing how overall, its not worth our efforts.
At least it is great for finding new music.

    1. Isaya says:

      Hey Jesse,

You’re most welcome. I hope I saved you some time working on your account setup and reviews, only to be disappointed by the returns. I know I was!

  3. Thomas says:

    Hey Isaya,

Great review. I have done services similar to this with Opinion Outpost. With that it seems like you can spend an entire day being rejected for surveys and when you finally got to do a survey or 2 they barely gave enough points to even pay out 10 dollars.

I love the math you use to show users the BEST case efforts to make money, if you want to call it that, with programs like these.

I do wish there was a service out there where you could listen to music, or give a lot of time doing a task, and actually get paid. But as it is a menial task and not actually “work” I can see why it pays out so little. Makes me wonder how much THEY make with the people that do a little work then abandon what little they did make because it wasn’t worth spending the time to get to a level that actually paid out. Without knowing more about the model, that seems to be the point. But I digress.

    Nevertheless, great review and information.

    1. Isaya says:

      Hey Thomas,

It can be hard to sift through all the “opportunities” to make money online, to find the ones that are actually legitimate and worth your time. If you haven’t already, I’d recommend checking out UserTesting.com, the payouts are $10 per review, and you don’t have to reach some ridiculous payout threshold. You most likely won’t find consistent work, but it’s one of the best time vs. reward online jobs out there. At least in regards to micro-jobs.

If you really want to WORK online, and make money for yourself as opposed to being paid by someone else for brainless tasks, then I highly recommend taking a look at my #1 recommendation. I think a smart individual like yourself would do well, you seem to have a good understanding of what is actually possible here online.

If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask!
      All the best,

Thanks for taking the time to research this program and write your findings. If it wasn’t for you I probably would have signed up, hoped to make thousands per month only to be let down. I’m not interested in pennies, I want enough to quit my day job. I’ll check out your recommendation. Thanks a bunch!

    1. Isaya says:

      Hey Brandon,

You’re very welcome! I in fact didn’t have to do any research, I found this all out the hard way! Hopefully I saved you the trouble of signing up only to be disappointed.

  5. Garen says:

I’m so glad I stumbled across this video because like you I signed up for an account and did 7 reviews and make a whopping .04! I think the idea does sound really cool. I have always enjoyed lots of different genres of music.

I can’t even remember what the payout threshold is. Do you happen to know what it is?

Honestly, I think this might be a Ponzi scheme. 4 million paid out, really?

    1. Isaya says:

      Hey Garen,

The payouts are as far as I know, between $0.01, and $0.05 depending on your profile ranking. So even if you made the highest payout of $0.05, at the rate at which you can write your reviews, you’d be lucky to make more than a couple bucks every hour.

I feel you might be right; the referral system that is in place is supposed to let you “kick back and earn”, but really you’re making less than a cent for your efforts. Not worth your time!

  6. Israel says:

Your reviews about Slicethepie are very accurate. I once used the platform in the past but later decided to call it a quit due to its extremely low earning potential. When I heard about it in the first place, I was really excited to join. I thought I would be earning up to $6 listening to music, but discovered that making money within the platform was not as easy as advertised.

    1. Isaya says:

      Hey Israel,

Thanks for your personal review of the program. I’m glad to hear that I’m not the only one who was greatly disappointed by the outcomes!
I appreciate you taking the time to leave your feedback.

  7. Dominic says:

    Hi Isaya!

Thanks for the review, I am all ears when it comes to making extra cash. I can see your point of view. Time is money and everyone should have a standard amount they need to make per day or hour to make anything worthwhile.

    All the best

    1. Isaya says:

      Hey Dominic,

This program really is a waste of time. There’s no point investing your precious time into a program that pays you so little. You might as well be doing nothing!

      Same to you,

  8. I didn’t even realize there was a way to make money giving opinion of songs, Although it seems like too much sugar for a dime. Even if you refer 1,000 people you are still making less than $100 if they all review one song each. Your #1 option you recommend in the article looks awesome and a solid way to learn as well as make money online. I will definitely be checking that out shortly.

Thank you for this stellar review!

    1. Isaya says:

      Hey Barry,

The opportunity here really does lack potential, but you won’t be disappointed with my recommended alternative.

      All the best to you!

Thanks for this review, even though I have never run across this program while searching for ways to make money from home. I want to thank you for researching and taking the plunge for all of us out here. After reading your review, this program is not for me, thank you for saving me time on a dud of a program.

    1. Isaya says:

      Hey Bobbi,

You’re most welcome! I’m glad I could spare you the trouble of wasting your time.

  10. AlanJE says:

Hi I was very interested to read your SliceThePie review, and know from your assessment that it will not be worth my while to try it out, as the earning power is very poor. Thank you Alan

    1. Isaya says:

      Hey Alan,

You’re making the right choice! Although Slicethepie can be one of the more entertaining methods of earning petty cash online, it’s also one of the lowest paying programs. Not worth yours, or anyone else’s time.

  11. Philip says:

    Hi Isaya,

I am glad I Googled SliceThePie as I had a feeling it was too good to be true!

There is always a catch with opportunities that promise you to Make Money Online in my experience.

Micro jobs, as far as I am concerned, are pure scams per the time and effort you put in. I would never recommend people even try them out, but instead, invest their time into building something for themselves that will last them a life time.

    Of course, it is everyones.

Thank you for this very helpful article.

    1. Isaya says:

      Hey Philip,

You’re more than welcome! I’m just glad I could save you the trouble of wasting your time only to come to the same realization I did.
I’m always keen on learning about new online money making opportunities, but unfortunately, most of them aren’t a viable option!

  12. I do not know how sites like this stay in existence. Really this is less than minimum wage. I cannot find anything good to say about it. If I had to rate it, it would get a -10

    1. Isaya says:

      Hey Maurice,

They stay in business because artists pay them to have people review their music. But the payouts for each review are so minuscule, and the minimum payment threshold is so high, that they most likely don’t even payout for most of their reviews. You’d have to complete hundreds of reviews in order to actually meet the minimum payment threshold of $10.00.

I’ve been researching Slice the pie and it doesn’t seem like a great foundation. More of a pyramid style way of making money.
I like the sound of your other recommendation. That’s sound like somewhere I can learn real skills.

    1. Isaya says:

      Hey Vince,

You’re right, it definitely is bordering on being a pyramid scheme or scam. The payouts are so low you have to invest a lot of time to earn anything.

      All the best!

    Hello Isaya,

This is really an interesting concept but it sounds like a real scam if anyone is lead to believe they will actually make money. I think it would be fine as a fun activity for someone that likes to listen to music and share their opinions, but it would never be a viable option to make money.

Even if you got some friends and family to sign up, the amount you would make off of their reviews is so minuscule that it is virtually meaningless. You would run out of friends to sign up and then what? You certainly won’t be able to convince many people to sign from the general public and then if they do, they will probably do a few reviews, see how terrible the pay is and quit! Like you said, you would need to sign up thousands of people and then keep that up indefinitely, always finding more and more to sign up. There are much more efficient ways to make money however, so this is a total waste of time and effort!

I agree with you that affiliate marketing is a smarter way to go since you can put the time in to build something that lasts and will eventually make money for you even when you are away from your computer. You also don’t have to bug your friends or family since your customers will be able to find you online through searches for what they are interested in!

    1. Isaya says:

      Hey Jessica,

You’re completely right in every way! It is a total waste of time, unless you just like listening to new music and sharing your opinions.
Affiliate marketing is a much better option for someone interested in actually making substantial money.

I was a member of the site back then. Review per music is so high that 8 review could give you a dollar. I get around $0.08-$0.20 per music rating back then but then I think the site went bankrupt that the rates these days are too low. I quit a year ago because they are only give 1 cent per review. I totally discourage everyone to use the site, earnings’ too low! Waste of time and effort unless the rate will be raised just like the way it was.

    1. Isaya says:

      Hey Jerick,

thanks a lot for leaving your feedback. I was unaware that this site used to pay much more substantial payouts, and if they continued to do so it definitely would be worth some of your downtime!
